Community Assembly and Landscape Ecology

Elliot Bairstow

I joined the cale lab in 2021 upon starting my masters project in MRes Tropical Forest Ecology.

My research involves looking at whether distance to range edge impacts Squamata sensitivity to habitat loss. This requires data on reptile ranges (provided by the Global Assessment of Reptile Distributions) and on species presence/ absence in fragmented areas (provided through the BioFrag database).

From this I will be calculating distance to range edge for each species at each site- spread across 9 Neotropical countries- as well as canopy cover for each of these sites. I can then model whether canopy cover impacts species presence/ absence and see if this relationship changes with distance to range edge.
